Chris Wood has worked in sustainable transport for some twenty years. Until recently, he was the officer for the Widen the Choice Rural Transport Partnership, for which he wrote and designed the good practice guide, Green Access for Countryside Recreation, mentioned here. Widen the Choice brought together The National Trust, the RSPB and Natural England in a partnership dedicated to making it easier for people in the East of England region to reach and explore the countryside by means other than the car. Beginning with National Trust properties and RSPB reserves in the region, Widen the Choice expanded its remit to work with many other people to achieve sustainable access to the countryside. Sadly, due to funding difficulties, Widen the Choice is in hibernation, although it remains a focus for communication between interested organisations. As Transplan, Chris specialises in green access to the countryside, including ‘Green Access Audits’ for countryside attractions, although his capabilities stretch across the gamut of sustainable transport: rural, suburban and urban. He also has research and writing interests in history, heritage and landscape. Chris can be contacted on 01603 667314. Full contact details can be found at www.transplan.org.
